威廉·史塔克（1907-2003），1930年开始为《纽约客》画漫画，享有“漫画之王”的美誉。1968年61岁时出版第一本图画书。1970年出版的《驴小弟变石头》获得了声望极高的凯迪克金奖。1977年，《会说话的骨头》获得凯迪克银奖。《老鼠阿贝漂流记》和《老鼠牙医生》分别获1977年和1983年纽伯瑞银奖。他本人在1988年获得国际安徒生奖画家奖的提名。
